Monitoring of the radiation state of the exclusion zone

The increase in the level of radiation exposure to the environment after the Chernobyl disaster necessitated regular radiation environmental monitoring (REM). It is an integral part of the overall system of monitoring and control of the environment of the exclusion zone.

мониторинг

Conducting a REM is mandatory under all conditions

More than 300 monitoring points and landfills

4.5 thousand samples, 10 thousand laboratory tests per year

22 regular recipients of information

Description of the service

Radiation and ecological monitoring of the environment in the exclusion zone and the zone of unconditional (compulsory) resettlement includes determination of the content of radionuclides in atmospheric air, surface, groundwater, wastewater and wastewater, soil, components of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, food in places of unauthorized residence of “self-settlers”, etc. Data and analysis of monitoring results are the basis for the development and adoption of management decisions on the implementation of measures aimed at minimizing the consequences of the Chernobyl accident in terms of removal of radionuclides outside the exclusion zone.

Stages of service provision

Stage 1
Receiving a notification on the need for radiation environmental monitoring

The brigade receives an application, coordinates of the area and leaves to monitor the radiation background. It is necessary to check the serviceability of measuring instruments.

Stage 2
Sampling on the ground

Specialists take samples in accordance with established standards and safety precautions. The time and place of environmental sampling / monitoring must be indicated.

Stage 3
Obtaining and processing results

With the help of special devices the radiation condition of samples is assessed. The final figures are recorded in the database and passed on to firefighters, Chernobyl workers and guides.
